HAVE YOUR BOOKS APPRAISED FOR FREE

BATON ROUGE – Visitors to the sixth annual Louisiana Book Festival may bring their books for a free appraisal by a professional book appraiser on Saturday, October 4. The festival is being presented at the State Library and nearby locations.

Joseph J. DeSalvo, Jr., owner of the Faulkner House in New Orleans, will offer his expertise when he appraises books in the style of the Antiques Road Show at a daylong celebration of books and their readers (two books per person limit so that all can be served).

DeSalvo will be in the Rare Books Room of the Louisiana State Library on North Fourth Street in Baton Rouge from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. His service is one of many book-related events taking place between 10 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. in the State Capitol area downtown. All events are free and open to the public.

The 2008 Louisiana Book Festival features regionally and nationally known authors such as William Joyce, Rick Bragg, George Singleton, James Nolan, Darrell Bourgue, Amanda Boyden, Tom Piazza, Julia Reed, Marc Smirnoff, James Wilcox and Charles Reagan Wilson. More than 150 authors and panelists from a variety of genres have been invited to read, sign their books and discuss their work with readers. The celebration ends with a concert by the Baton Rouge Symphony in front of the Louisiana State Capitol. The symphony will perform The Sound of Books!, featuring musical selections from films adapted from books.

The Louisiana Book Festival is co-sponsored by the Louisiana Center for the Book; the State Library of Louisiana; the Department of Culture, Recreation & Tourism; Office of Lt. Governor Mitch Landrieu and the Louisiana Library Foundation. The Louisiana Book Festival is made possible in part by a grant from the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities. Complete information on the 2008 Book Festival is available online at www.LouisianaBookFestival.org or by calling (225)-219-9503.
